Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy differs from other types of cranial work in that it includes in a larger perspective of listening to the body and its surrounding connection to an energy field that breathes all living things on our planet. It includes the body: the central nervous system, the brain and spinal cord, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system expression, cerebrospinal fluid flow, sutural restrictions and dysfunctional tissue patterns. Yet with BCST, the practitioner palpates a slower more broad energy respiration/breath starting from conception and into the midline of the body breathing through the entire cellular body and out beyond it about 15 inches in all directions. This breath directs our cells to do their job and function at the highest level of health that is possible as the body interfaces with its environment. The effects of magnifying this breath create more health and resilience in the body on all levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. BCST is the most holistic form of cranial work that exists and was discovered after its originator Dr. Sutherland had been doing more anatomical localized cranial work for 40 years… he began to notice these breaths or tides that were breathing the body as a whole. So this work is local as well as global.
The practitioner trains for 2 years to be able to support deep settling and teaching the client by magnifying and orienting to these deeper supportive energy breaths that bring health through the entire body and energy field around it. Orienting to the health in your system rather than the dis-ease is the foundation of this work. BCST listens to the expression of three fluid tides that originate from a larger field that is breathing our planet. The earth has its own energy field and so do we, this is a scientific fact. These energy fields that we track are: the Long Tide which connects everything on earth and has a cycle of about 55 seconds inhalation and 55 seconds exhalation, the Midtide which is a more personalized local field to your body going through your entire system and around it in all directions about 15-18 inches. BCST takes a large part of its application and wisdom from embryology, quantum physics, and how our systems enfold from the moment of our conception which carries a very strong original blueprint for health.
Some defining differences of BCST with regards to other approaches of craniosacral therapy (CST) are its focus on and orientation to the health present in the system rather than disease, and the co-creation of a safe and settled practitioner-client connection ( we call this the “relational field”) that is safe in a verbal and non-verbal way. Practitioners create a triad of the client, the practitioner, and the breath of life ( the originator of all the tides and stillness).
As the breath of life unfolds throughout numerous layers within the body, and the biosphere around it, the potency is palpable. The biodynamic ordering process expresses its own treatment plan that practitioners are trained to support and help set up the correct environment for it to arise in a client. Unresolved trauma created by life experiences that are physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental, especially conception and birth experiences, become deep imprints on our system and how we experience life as an adult. If these imprints are difficult they can impinge up the connection to the tides/breathes of energy that direct our cells and body to function, and dampen these tides that promote health. BCST is a non-invasive and non-manipulative approach to CST.
